The Manchester Conference Centre
Manchester, UK

7-8 November 2014

Conference Focus

This knowledge community is brought together by a common concern for learning and an interest to explore issues of concern in the fields of aging and society, and in their social interconnections and implications.

We are inviting proposals for paper presentations, workshops/interactive sessions, posters/exhibits, or colloquia (See Proposal Types) addressing aging and society through one of the following themes:

Economic and Demographic Perspectives on Aging Medical Perspectives on Aging, Health, Wellness
Public Policy and Public Perspectives on Aging Social and Cultural Perspectives on Aging
2014 Conference Special Focus: Diversity in Aging

Proposal ideas that extend beyond these thematic areas will also be considered. For more information about the ideas and themes underlying this community, see Our Focus.

We also offer participation options for those individuals who cannot attend the conference. Authors who wish to submit an article for potential publication in the The International Journal of Aging and Society may submit a Proposal for Article Submission, while all members of the knowledge community with an accepted proposal may submit an online presentation to the knowledge community YouTube channel.

Diversity and Aging

A special focus of this year's conference will be "Diversity and Aging." This focus seeks to explore the social and cultural diversity in later life in the topic areas of sexuality, ethnicity, culture, gender and health. There are two main questions that also arise in relation to diversity and aging. The first is what are the experiences of aging that tend to be marginalized in research and practice? The second is how do we challenge the ideas and concepts about the aging process and seek out new ways of understanding aging? Exploring these issues and questions will shed light on the complex and dynamic nature of experiences of aging and address gaps in existing research and knowledge.
